Past Perfect Tense

 What It Is:

We use the Past Perfect Tense to talk about an action that was completed before another action in the past.
It helps show which event happened first.

 Formula:

Subject + had + past participle (V3)

(“Had” is used with all subjects.)

💡 Examples:

  • I had finished my homework before dinner.

  • She had left the office when I arrived.

  • They had already watched the movie.

  • We had never seen such a beautiful place.

Common Time Words:

  • before

  • after

  • already

  • when

  • by the time

A. Fill in the blanks using the Past Perfect form of the verb in brackets.
